Meta’s social network app Threads has grown to 300 million users, with over 100 million people using the service daily. Mark Zuckerberg announced a new phase, stating that “the momentum of Threads continues to be strong.”
Zuckerberg has repeatedly suggested that Threads has a “good chance” of becoming the company’s next billion-user app. Although that goal is still a long way off, its growth seems to be accelerating. Last fall, the app reached 100 million users, and it surpassed the 275 million mark in early November. Additionally, Apple reported that Threads was the second most popular app in 2024, trailing only behind the shopping app Temu, which took the top spot in Apple’s rankings.
In the coming weeks, Threads could see significant changes as Meta aims to capitalize on this growth. According to a recent report by The Information, the company plans to start experimenting with the first advertising campaigns for Threads in early 2025.
Threads is not the only app trying to build a user base as some leave the platform X (formerly Twitter). Bluesky has also seen significant growth recently. The decentralized service nearly doubled its user base in November and currently has just over 25 million users.
